Red Bull Shoot to Thrill 2008 Premiere Party

|

stt_girls.jpgI booked out one morning and arrived into Vancouver the day before Red Bull Shoot to Thrill event and realized not much has changed since the couple years i had been here last. Quickly i went straight to my favorite pizza place, "The price had gone up!". The bad economy had even hit Canada. Hope it doesn't hit their beer prices.

stt_burrito.jpgThe next day I awake to a nice brisk walk throughout the city. Sun was beaming to the west, but rain still dropped sporactily on Vancouver as I walked around in the 55 degree weather. The people there are for the most part the same, in this gloomy sort of life. Though I did pass by a window of topless chicks which was cool (see above) Heavy jacket and all, I made my way to on the sky train to Rick McCrank's Anti Social store, and of course ate a burrito at the infamous Budgies (I recommend any veggie lover to go there)

stt_sunset.jpgUpon walking home I witnessed one of most beautiful sunsets I have seen in a long time. Not to many places in the world can have sunsets like this, but Vancouver is one of them.
Being from an area like LA in which I don't walk much, this was kinda over doing it. I probably walked about 10 miles total roundtrip, and my calfs were starting to cramp up (i know I am a pussy)

stt_mag.jpgI got a call from Gabe from Red Bull Canada, "Free Drinks at 7pm till the events starts" After the news, I directly head driectly home and take a nap before my night of drinking. Well that endedup screwing me, because I woke up at 8pm and rushed over to only enjoy one free beer and 4 chicken wings. God I suck! Anyways, the night was still young, and we as a group consisting of Magnus Hanson, Ryan Decenzo and pretty much the entire Surrey Posse, we arrive infront of the Vogue Theater....

stt_theater.jpgThe Vogue was a eclectic landmark theater which had great stage layout and from what I was told destined to be torn down. As we all crowded in this place, the hyped started to form. Who would win? The concept was simple, 10 rolls of 16mm film, 3 days, make a movie. From the first to last, it was a great show. A couple of stragglers you could tell never filmed 16mm and the theme's were kinda funky, but for the most part great short films.

stt_paulryan.jpgFrench Fred had a short film, which consisted of all mirrors and was very well conceptualized. Benny Stoddard had a film for Team Grizzlies which was a impromptu race between Paul Machnau, Magnus Hanson and Ryan Decenzo. This one also well put together. I enjoyed Solid Waste's from Vancouver Island (Victoria) film which focused on what the skaters would have been or do on their off times.

OH yeah, the after party! Cant forget about the most important part of the night. It was at this booshy crap place called the Republic which is apparently made for guys who have real jobs, which obviously was lame, but then moved to Lucy May Browns much more of our style of joint. See the party picks here.

At the end of the night, all I remember was I was eating two slices of pizza's (from the best pizza place on Granville) with enough hot sauce on it to kill a cow, and the next morning reminded me of it. Check back for exclusive interviews of the winning team, the concept creators of Shoot to Thrill and of course.. The videos!
