GO SKATEBOARDING DAY in NEW YORK CITY!

brooklyn-banks-masses.jpg
On a bright sunny day on Sunday the June 21st 2008 gathering at Brooklyn Banks are 5000 or more skateboarders of all ages and all races, waiting to hear more information on where the next location is for Wild in the Streets/Go Skateboarding Day.  Once informed without haste, the crowd completely flooded the streets of New York, stopping traffic even on the most major of streets...
The second stop was LES skatepark (main picture above) everyone crowed around and skated the ramps, with music blasting and kids cheering.  Stoked Mentoring was there taking photos of the kids for their website and introducing kids to the program.

Now Rodney Torres posted up on the megaphone, the next stop was Tomkins Square in LES.  Again even more kids plowed through the streets on a chase to see who could get to Tomkins first. (picture below)

After Tomkins the mass crowd was directed to the last and final stop.  KCDC in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Up and across the Williamsburg Bridge 5000 kids walking up the bridge then cruising down the second half, making a hairpinned left turn torwards the main street in Williamsburg: Bedford Ave.

Now thousands of kids a couple feet apart are barreling down Bedford Ave like our own personal parade.  Spectators on the sidelines cheering and taking photos, probably wondering who collaborated this crazy event.

Now at KC-DC the local Brooklyn skateboard shop, scads of kids are lurking, as RedBull girls are passing throughout the crowd passing out drinks, free pizza and kids are waiting for the product toss.  Flat ground tricks, autograph signing, the emerica RV posted up, with music playing, and even a cover band, playing all sorts of music.

All and all, this event was amazing, and every year its only getting better.  Join us next year, in 2009 for Go Skateboarding Day, and don't forget to bring your skateboard!

It is a really great event; however, the next time it would be less dangerous if traffic would not be allowed on the strip. This is really not a good idea. I think it would be an even better event if no traffic is allowed on the route.
