Red Bull is proud to announce the return of Red Bull Manny Mania in the UK this October and November. The competition, which was a huge success last year, will see some of the best amateur and professional manual tricksters battle it out on an original manual pad configuration in an attempt to be crowned 2009 champ.

mikeywright_mmUK.jpgOver recent years manual tricks have risen in popularity and this technically difficult area of skating deserves recognition. The contest will have a jam session format to reflect the way skateboarding happens naturally and also to encourage the best tricks.

This exciting format will see talented unknowns pitch their skills against some of the country's best. The competition will have four initial qualifiers with the top four riders from each session progressing through to the Grand Final in London on Saturday 28th November.

The competition promises to be hotter than ever with the inclusion of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. They will also holding four feeder sessions with one skater qualifying for the London Final from each.

UK skater Kris Vile comments: "It's nice to see some creative thinking in the competition scene. Red Bull Manny Mania will give people the chance to bring their manual skills to the table and show them off. Plus I'm stoked Ireland are in on the action this year. I'm sure they'll bring a big bag of tricks along with them to the Grand Final in London. I can't wait."

Now the best skater from each stop will compete in the digital manny rumble royale, vying for your vote as the grand prize winner, with the chance to take home $7,000 in prizes and take their shooting, and their recognition, to the next level.

At the end of September, the skater with the most popular manual maneuvers will be sporting a prize back with the best of digital video equipment - winning a JVC HD Everio GZ - HD40 camera, a Macbook Pro 15"widescreen computer and programs to edit their future footage with including Final Cut Studio and Mac OS X Lepoard - and last but not least, a handy pelican case to carry their gear to all the hot skate spots around town.

So who will get bragging rights as the best manual am in the US? Will it be East Coast reppin', or someone from Dirty South? A Navajo tribe member who skated in Long Beach or a part-time music producer from Baltimore? The fans will decide who wins, and who will take home video equipment that will help one skater raise the bar on his video parts, perhaps taking them from You Tube to your next favorite skate flick.

entry_redbullmannymania.jpgMore than 5,000 fans flocked to First Friday in downtown Phoenix last Friday for Red Bull Manny Mania, an amateur skateboarding competition based on "the manual," (a skateboarding trick similar to a wheelie). The competition between the 30 Arizona skateboarders was fierce, but Mesa's Ryan Lay came out on top, besting Glendale's John Rob (2nd place) and Phoenix's Jahir Carbajal (3rd Place). John Motta was the winner of the Skateboarder Magazine "Best Trick Award," for his "manny to feeble, 270 out."

Started in 2007 as the first-ever professional manual contest, Red Bull Manny Mania is giving amateur skaters from all corners of the U.S. the chance to show off their best manual combos in 15 cities this summer. The 2009 Red Bull Manny Mania AM Series features stops in Pittsburgh, Portland, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, San Francisco, ms_redbullmannymania.jpgChicago, Richmond, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Columbus, Denver, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Winner Ryan Lay will have footage of his performance entered into the digital finals and posted on the official Red Bull Manny Mania website to compete against the winners from the other 14 stops across the U.S. The skater with the most votes on his video at the end of the summer wins a digital video camera prize pack valued at over $7,000.

The manual or "manny" is a skateboarding trick where, while rolling, the front wheels of the skateboard are lifted off the ground, but the tail does not touch the ground. A manual is similar to a wheelie in other wheeled sports. It is regarded as one of skateboarding's most difficult tricks, and requires balance, skill and creativity.

Phoenix Results -
1st Place - Ryan Lay (Mesa)
2nd Place - John Rob (Glendale)
3rd Place - Jahir Carbajal (Phoenix)
